It is always important to have a clear idea of what you are aiming to achieve in any given class and prepare the necessary resources. It is also important that students have a clear understanding of what your expectations are of them. Being able to consistently achieve this requires good organizational skills and the ability to provide clear instructions.
This summative task encompassed three lessons where students needed to design a contraption based on their knowledge of car safety features and Newton’s Laws of Motion to protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a significant height. It was an activity that I had some concerns about beforehand as there were plenty of opportunities for students to get up to mischief. By organizing all of the materials carefully beforehand, providing clear directions, and encouraging desired behaviors this task was completed with great enthusiasm and we achieved some very encouraging learning outcomes.

“He did employ strategies to successfully move students into the classroom and begin the lesson in a timely and orderly fashion and did not begin teaching until students were attentive. During science practicals, Peter explained his expectations clearly and consequently the students carried out the experiments safely and accurately.”
